Understanding the 7 Habits of Highly Successful People

Stephen Covey wrote a runaway bestseller in the Self Improvement Industry, called "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People". In the book which has sold over 10 million copies worldwide, Covey lays out 7 proven principles for success.

Here's an explanation of their meaning and consequence:

Number 1 – Be Proactive.
Don't live reactively! Take responsibility and initiative for your own life! Never let life just happen to you.

Number 2 – Begin with the End in Mind.
Always have a goal in mind — the right goal for you — because you won't go ANYWHERE if you only have nowhere in mind!

Number 3 – Do first things first.
Examine, and re-examine your priorities (not necessarily the most urgent though) so you can always focus on the most important things to you.

Number 4 – Think Win Win
Don't burn your bridges; make all parties in a relationship winners — create situations that make all sides winners where no one gets hurt.

Number 5 - Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood
To create win-win relationships, put yourself in the other person's place in order to figure out what they want and what winning means to them. Once your understand the other person, you can explain your feelings and desires in a way which makes sense to the other person.

Number 6 - Synergize
This is a powerful concept of cooperation where the result is more than simply the sum of each person's efforts.

Number 7 - Sharpen the Saw
Never question the benefit of self-renewal to sharpen your tools (body, soul, mind and heart).  You work harder and faster when refreshed.
