Make Your Own Decisions

Remember you always have at least TWO choices to make in every situation:
  1. NOT doing anything that changes a situation, or
  2. DOING something that will change a situation.
Instead of feeling overwhelmed or pressured by family, peers, and society to do things their way, the most popular way, or the way things have always been done, at least explore choosing what works best for you.   What a tragedy to drift through your life from choices made by others instead of fulfilling you own dreams and wishes.

If you choose to go against other's wishes though, be gentle, open, non-threatening, and tolerant while communicating with them.  Maintain your persistence calmly and consistently but expect to feel unsupported and frustrated by the lack of other's approval and understanding.  Family may be confused and defensive if you go against family traditions and friends can feel abandoned when you change previously shared habits or behaviors.  Explaining and re-explaining your choices can get very tiresome, so be willing to ask others simply to respect your wishes and to stop talking about your decision(s).
If truly loving a person means you simply support whatever choices others make without attempting to control them, then you are justified to expect the same considerations from friends and family regarding the choices you make.
