"Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to Anger. Anger leads to Hate. Hate leads to Suffering" -- Yoda
Has fear kept you from doing something you really wanted — or really needed to do, simply because something bad might happen if you do the thing you're considering? Is your fear based on a personal experience or simply an expected bad experience? Thankfully most of our worst fears never materialize, and your fears can actually propel you to let go of past disappointments and pain so that you can finally move forward.
"I have not ceased being fearful, but I have ceased to let fear control me." -- Erica Jong
Just replace those fears of the future which have you feeling confused and misled by paying attention to your current habits and patterns of thinking and feeling. Allow yourself to feel anxious and fearful, but immediately shift your thinking to three things for which you are grateful at that very moment. Maintaining this new awareness of your present and how you feel NOW will positively change your perspective about your life — and your future fears. Identifying the lessons from your past mistakes will help you make wiser decisions now, leading to a better future.
". . .if you take care of these obstacles, you create an environment where the truth is invited into your life." -- Po Bronson, author of The New York Times Bestseller "What Should I Do with My Life?"
Accept that until — and unless — you first acknowledge and then commit to letting go of your fears, they will remain your constant companion for the rest of your life. They will hold you back, keep you down, and demolish your dreams. They exist because of either your past or your future, and both are beyond your control.
“Do the thing you fear; and the death of fear is certain.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson
Feeling uncertain and insecure about voluntarily embarking on a life-changing experience or project is meant to force you to examine your expectations of, motivation for, and commitment to the change you're considering. Listen to the wisdom of your fears, look for the intelligence of the change(s) you're contemplating. Meditate, sit quietly, or journal about your thoughts and feelings, such as your worries, sadness, excitement, or hopes, to arrive at a more confident decision.
"We can't fear the past. Fear is a future thing. And since the future's all in our heads, fear must be a head thing." -- Tom Payne
