"It's not whether people find out about what you've done or not. . .that's not nearly as strong as having your source of morality within you, having your morality arise out of an inner perception of what is wrong, ridiculous, or shameful. You are your own judge." Eunice Baumann-Nelson, Ph.D., PENOBSCOT
You have a quiet, guiding voice deep inside you which will always steer you away from disaster when you listen for and to it. Whenever you notice feelings of fear, guilt, doubt, shame, anger, or helplessness, stop to listen. Your life is the product of your awareness, and growth and choices improve as your awareness increases.
"Emotions are the next frontier to be understood and conquered. To manage our emotions is not to drug them or suppress them, but to understand them so that we can intelligently direct our emotional energies and intentions. It's time for human beings to grow up emotionally, to mature into emotionally managed and responsible citizens. No magic pill will do it." Doc Childre
Unfortunately, when you get too emotionally excited and involved, you can't hear your own soft, wise voice because your very loud and noisy voice of judgment takes over, urging you to attack or say harsh things both to others and to yourself. You become you own worst enemy then because you've lost your ability to control your feelings, thoughts, and behavior or to make wise decisions and choices.
Practice and learn to stop yourself, become still, and listen for your quiet, wise, and gently guiding voice.
Ironically, only strong emotions which have been hidden and silenced are subject to your assertive voice of judgment. Once you fully experience your strongest, negative emotions and feelings without any kind of resistance to acknowledge them fully they magically loose their ability to affect you adversely.
"By starving emotions, we become humorless, rigid and stereotyped; by repressing them, we become literal, reformatory and holier-than-thou; encouraged, they perfume life; discouraged, they poison it." Joseph Collins
